Surfulater V3.00, Build 0.14 Release Notes
Surfulater Version 3.00, Build 0.14 Release Notes - 28 Oct 2008
This a maintenance release to fix a few problems found in the past week with the new V3.0 release.
What's New
- Web page thumbnails captured using Firefox no longer include the entire Web Browser window, just the web page.
What's Fixed
- Capturing content from Firefox, when Surfulater isn't already running, now works correctly again. This only worked some of the time for some people. The Web page thumbnail is now also correct. This issue is only applicable to V3 and the new V3 Firefox Extension.
- A bug introduced in V3.0 where copying articles from one Knowledge Base to another would not copy Attachments correctly has been fixed. If you have copied articles with attachments across KB's, delete the copies and copy them again.
- Surfulater now minimizes to the System Tray when a Skinned UI Theme such as Obsidian is used. This is an old issue which we could finally reproduce thanks to Charles Cowan who provided the missing details.

What's New in V3.00.0.12 in detail- You can now add Tags to Articles and view Articles based on their Tags in a new Tags Tree. Tags can consist of multiple words with auto-suggest providing quick selection of existing tags. Tags added to articles are added to the Tags database, if they don't already exist. Tags can be renamed, merged and deleted instantly. Tags can be added to and removed from multiple articles. The Tags Tree displays nested tags for all articles with a given tag, enabling quick access to articles with Tags A and B. See Tags and Tagging Articles in the Help for details.
- Template editing enables you to rearrange the rows in a articles to best suit your needs. For example instead of having the Tags field at the bottom of an article you can locate it near the top. This is the first step towards more powerful template editing. See Editing Article Templates in the Help for details.
- Articles are now displayed dynamically in the Content window as you scroll or page down. This makes Surfulater more responsive, enables it to use less resources by only loading content as it is required and simplifies the code. Note that this changes the behaviour of the End key in that it moves to the last article in the content window, which may not be the last article available for display. To ensure you are seeing all articles, repeatedly press End or PgDn until no more articles are displayed. Dynamic content is only relevant when displaying multiple articles at once.
- When you select multiple articles in the Knowledge Tree, they are now all displayed in the content window, not just the last one selected. This is part of some underlying changes we are making to the content display capability.
- The Surfulater Firefox Extension is now installed and updated by Surfulater. There is no need to download it and install it yourself. Firefox must be closed when Surfulater is installed, as must Internet Explorer. If Surfulater is UnInstalled the Firefox Extension is also uninstalled. When upgrading from Surfulater Version 1 or 2 you must manually uninstall the Surfulater Firefox Extension using Tools|Add-ons in Firefox.
- Content Capture from Firefox has been rewritten and no longer uses the Windows Clipboard to send content to Surfulater. This resolves problems with Clipboard capture programs such as Clipmate. It is also faster.
- Content capture from Web Browsers and other programs now saves the content immediately and queues it up for processing. This helps to ensure multiple quick captures are not lost.
- Surfulater now works with IE7 Protected Mode under MS Vista. See What's Fixed for more on this.
- The IE and Firefox Extensions that enable Web Browser integration and content capture in Surfulater have been updated. Captured Web page thumbnails are no longer passed across to Surfulater using files. The latter will still work for other applications that create Surfulater articles using the Surfulater XML Clipboard Format - SXCF.
- A new Note Article template has been added which includes Title, Note and Tags fields. The original Note template has been renamed to 'Quick Note'.
- Ctrl+F8 switches focus between the Knowledge Tree Bar and the Content window. Suggested by Craig Prichard.
- The Knowledge Tree Search Results Folder, Article context menu has been updated to include: "Edit this Article", "Rename", "Tags...", "Send To", "Add Links to files..." and "Attach Files...".
- The Knowledge Tree Article context menu has been reorganized to bring "Remove xxx" and "Rename" up with New and Edit. "Edit this Article" has been moved below "New Article". Thanks to Jai Kasturi for raising this.
- The Content window context menu has been reorganized to bring "Remove Article" up with New and Edit. "Edit this Article" has been moved below "New Article".
- The image used for the Search Results folder has been updated.
- Commands Expand All Folders, Collapse All Folders, Expand Folders and Collapse Folders now work in the Folders Only Tree, Chronological Tree and the Help Tree. These are Keypad +/- and Ctrl+Keypad +/-.
- The Chronological Tree Article context menu now includes "Send To|..." , "Rename", "Add Links to files..." and "Attach Files...".

- "Tags Tree" has been added to various menus.

- F7 selects the Tags Tree view. - Clicking the Knowledge Base Tab Bar now sets focus to the content window, as does clicking on the Tab for the current KB.
- When the Knowledge Tree has focus clicking on either the Tab for the current Knowledge Base or on the Tab Bar now sets focus to the Content window.
